What About Jesus?

www.whataboutjesus.com

Jesus is our Refuge

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

“Christianity is a crutch for the weak.”

This is the atheist’s argument against putting one’s faith in the God of the Bible. They argue that anyone who depends on anything other than themselves is feeble.

Medically speaking, a crutch is a tool the injured use for support. Only the wounded need crutches. But here’s the thing: somehow, someway, we are all wounded. We all need help. Some just prefer the bottle over the Bible.

When we don’t feel good about ourselves, where do we turn for assurance? We have enough options to choose from: earthly goods, food, alcohol, drugs, money, work. The problem with many such crutches is that they offer only temporary reprieve and often only mask much deeper issues of the heart.

The heart of the issue is that we are all weak. We are all broken. We are sinners in desperate need of saving. And the only one who has the power to help us is Jesus Christ. He took up our infirmities. He carried our sorrows. And by his wounds, we are healed.

God graciously allows us to go through hardship so that we seek the only one who can help. When we seek Jesus in our struggles, he finds us in his Word.

  • You say, “I can’t.” Jesus says, “I AM.”

  • You say, “I’m too tired.” Jesus says, “I will give you rest.”

  • You say, “I’m all alone.” Jesus says, “I am with you always.”

  • You say, “I don’t know where to turn.” Jesus says, “I am the way.”

  • You say, “I’ve had enough.” Jesus says, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

  • You say, “I’m afraid.” Jesus says, “My peace I give you.”

  • You say, “I can’t forgive myself.” Jesus says, “It is finished.”

  • You say, “I have my doubts.” Jesus says, “Whoever believes in me will never be put to shame.”

One Christian, reacting to the sufficiency of Jesus, observed, “Lord, you created us for yourself. And our hearts are restless until they find rest in you” (Augustine).

What was his point? Nothing satisfies like Jesus Christ.

Insight for Living

www.insight.org

Our Mission

Insight for Living Ministries is committed to excellence in communicating the truths of scripture and the person of Jesus Christ in an accurate, clear, and practical manner so that people will come to an understanding of God’s plan for their lives, as well as their significant role as authentic Christians in a needy, hostile, and desperate world.

Our Ministries

How do we fulfill this mission? Since 1979, the Insight for Living radio broadcast, with its extensive national and international reach, has been the ministry’s major vehicle in teaching the truths of Scripture and for presenting a message of genuine hope and encouragement to a worldwide audience.

The broadcast is the initial step in our mission to teach the Bible, proclaim the Gospel of Christ, mentor and train international pastors and ministers, and provide uplifting messages from the Scriptures that touch the hearts of our listeners around the world. Insight for Living Ministries is also committed to walking alongside our listeners after the broadcast ends, by providing support and prayerful encouragement via biblically trained pastoral counselors, Searching the Scriptures studies, Touching the Heart gift books, MP3s, and much more.

If you have a few more moments, please take a more in-depth look at some of the behind-the-scenes support ministries devoted to serving our listeners across the world.

Biblical Counseling

The Insight for Living Ministries Biblical Counseling department comprises seminary-trained pastors who help meet the spiritual needs of Insight for Living’s listeners around the world through biblical counseling and training others for ministry. Our confidential biblical counseling includes a ministry of prayer, comfort, spiritual direction, and instruction to promote growth in Christ. We accomplish that mission by developing educational and counseling content that is fashioned into letters, Web articles, and other printed products. We also offer biblical advice to listeners who call our direct line for phone counseling appointments, and we provide training and consultation for our field pastors and their ministry teams around the world.

Our pastor-to-pastor line offers help to pastors, church leaders, and their wives by assisting them with questions on the Bible and its application as well as counseling for personal or professional issues. We also have a specialized ministry specifically to prisoners. Our staff responds to roughly 3,000 phone calls, e-mails, and written letters per year.

International Ministries

Insight for Living Ministries desires that all people know the truth found in God’s Word. Our ministry calls this passion Vision 195—our hope that individuals in all 195 countries of the world can hear, read, and understands Chuck Swindoll’s biblical teaching and be ministered to in their heart language. People of all walks of life and languages are desperate for the truth that provides genuine hope and encouragement that can only come through Christ. To meet that need, we employ theologically trained pastors in many countries as well as capitalize on Dallas Theological Seminary graduates and interns in our home office. These pastors and interns work to ensure that our content is presented in an accurate, clear, and practical manner, all the while offering hope and real-life applications to the lives of people everywhere. We currently minister in Arabic, English, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, and Spanish. Our international-language ministries offer broadcasts on more than 1,000 stations, language-specific Web sites, as well as provide many printed publications.

One of the strengths of our international ministries is that our pastors live, work, and minister in many of these 195 countries, so Chuck’s heart for preaching and teaching God’s Word and offering the hope of the gospel can be expressed locally. This allows these pastors to lead local churches, mentor young pastors, and provide counseling in person. For more information on our international ministries, visit www.vision195.com. If you would like to hear one of our international broadcasts, visit www.insightworld.org.

Web Ministries

A Christian ministry with an international emphasis must realize what an increasingly powerful ministry tool the Internet has become and will continue to be in the future. We desire to offer our worldwide listeners and supporters instant, round-the-clock, and convenient access to a wide variety of biblical media resources that can only be made available through the Web. Our Web staff seeks to offer you an easily navigable Web site where you can find help on specific issues and questions and where you can access both current and past messages from the Insight for Living broadcast. We also send out timely and relevant e-mail updates to those who have requested them, as well as Chuck Swindoll’s daily devotional. Our Web site is constantly expanding with new products, articles, blogs, and topical sites, so browse through our various pages often.

Samaritan's Purse

www.samaritanspurse.org

The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a clear picture of God’s desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them. After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, “Go and do likewise.” For over 40 years, Samaritan’s Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ’s command by going to the aid of the world’s poor, sick, and suffering. We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

As our teams work in crisis areas of the world, people often ask, “Why did you come?” The answer is always the same: “We have come to help you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Our ministry is all about Jesus—first, last, and always. As the Apostle Paul said, “For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5, NIV).

Mission Statement

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Church Alliance

www.adfchurchalliance.org

About Us

Who we are:

ADF Church Alliance is a legal membership for churches, launched by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). Alliance Defending Freedom is the largest religious freedom legal organization in the world. In addition to advocating for religious freedom, we advocate for the sanctity of life, free speech, and marriage and family.

We desire each expression of the Church to be all it is called to be. Our team is comprised of Christians, and ADF is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.

What is ADF Church Alliance?

The ADF Church Alliance provides affordable legal assistance to churches of all sizes and denominations so they can freely live and preach the Gospel in their communities.

Through this membership program, we advocate for religious liberty, provide legal advice, offer valuable resources to churches to ensure proper religious liberty protections are in place, and when appropriate, litigate on behalf of churches to preserve and defend religious liberty.

How we serve:

We provide practical help to churches across the country through our legal membership. ADF Church Alliance acts as a hub for churches to gain access to experienced First Amendment lawyers. Our lawyers are available to answer religious liberty questions, conduct document reviews and provide advice, and even represent your church in court if necessary and appropriate.

ADF Church Alliance offers virtually all-inclusive legal help for religious freedom issues.

Why do we exist?

The Church is the tool by which God desires the Gospel to go to the ends of the earth. We work so that the rights of churches – to freely operate, preach, and minister – are not infringed.

Quite simply, ADF Church Alliance exists to keep the doors open for the Gospel.

Our History

Since our founding in 1994, ADF has been a steady advocate for religious freedom. We represent individuals, churches, and organizations that seek to freely live out their faith.

After serving the Church for more than two decades, ADF saw a trend emerging. Churches faced increasing legal concerns, but did not have access to attorneys who could help with the wide range of religious freedom questions and issues they had. Churches rarely had the resources – both legally and financially – to adequately protect their religious freedom.

We launched ADF Church Alliance to create a sustainable way to help every church with its religious freedom legal needs. This membership initiative makes it possible for churches of all sizes and denominations to access affordable legal help.

Alliance Defending Freedom was founded by 30 Christian leaders who recognized the need for a legal response to religious freedom threats. In today’s culture, the need to protect religious freedom is greater than ever before. We are so grateful that, through ADF Church Alliance, churches are standing together to protect the Church for this and future generations. When we stand together, freedom is protected, churches are empowered, and more people hear the Good News.

Our Partners

ADF Church Alliance partners with organizations, denominations, associations, and others to benefit churches across the country.

Our Purpose: To Serve The Church

We Stand With You

When talking about religious freedom, many people envision Christians in foreign countries being persecuted for sharing their beliefs or having to worship in secret. But religious freedom goes beyond being able to preach freely or pray in public, and religious freedom isn’t just an issue abroad. Individuals and churches in America face religious freedom legal challenges all too frequently.

Many of the religious freedom challenges churches face relate to operational aspects of the church: getting equal access to government grants or property, navigating zoning laws and permits, considering the impact of gender identity laws, abiding by employment regulations, knowing the limits of tax exemptions, and more.

Churches should have the freedom to operate in accordance with their beliefs, without facing discrimination from local, state, or federal governments. And they do not have to face legal challenges alone. ADF Church Alliance takes on the legal burden of your church, so that you can focus on ministry.
